In the first quarter of 2020, our joint large-scale project was approved to form a National Center of Excellence for Quantum Computing as part of the nations Digital Economy Program.
The Leading Research Center on Quantum Computing (agreement No. 014/20) was formed through a collaboration from Principle Investigator’s from the Russian Quantum Center (RQC), the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) and the Lebedev Physical Institute (FIAN). RQC is the primary project coordinator with Skoltech responsible for the theory, development and implementation of quantum enhanced algorithms.
The project seeks to demonstrate quantum enhanced algorithms on experimental platforms inside the Russian Federation, with special emphasis placed on trapped ion implementations.
RQC Group Leader and MIPT Adjunct Faculty member, Dr. Alex Fedorov acts as the Leading Research Center’s Principle Investigator. His team works to develop a series of quantum software solutions. This includes optimal control codes, modeling and other techniques that fits nicely with Skoltech’s application and algorithm centric focus. FIAN are the primary hardware developers, as lead by Prof. Nikolay Kalachevsky.
At Skoltech, the quantum algorithms research is directed by Prof. Jacob Biamonte. Dr. Ksenia Samburskaya is the project manager. Dr. Pavel Dorozhkin worked with Dr. Samburskaya to represent Skoltech during project negotiations. Skoltech’s Dr. Igor Zacharov is leading the development of the projects high performance computing initiative.
